Coach is Picking on Me

By Ken Spangenberg 2 months agoNo Comments
News flash boys…Coach is NOT picking on you. In fact, I bet it’s quite the opposite.

If a coach is providing you feedback, position or NEGATIVE, that is a sign that he cares about you and your career.

Far too often I see players get defensive or shut down when they are being coached (given feedback).

As coaches, we don’t care if you did something “wrong”. We just want to make sure you know that wasn’t what you should have done in that situation so you can do it RIGHT next time.

It’s not an insult. Coaches aren’t saying you stink. Coaches aren’t saying you can’t play the game. Coaches are saying if you do this, then you can be THAT much better.

Be confident in yourself and believe you can make the adjustments that your coach is asking of you. If he didn’t think you were capable of doing so, he wouldn’t be asking it of you.

No one rises to low expectations. Don’t seek out comfort. Seek out someone who cares enough about you to give you the truth…good and bad. Find someone who will challenge you. Be obsessed.
